UPDATE: July 15, 2015 will be the last day that the Loving Hut Express will be at the Sint Katelijneplein/Place Sainte Catherine in Brussels. The proprietor is trying to get a permit to stand at another location in Brussels one day a week. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates!
There aren’t a vast number of vegan lunch options in the center of Brussels (where I work), so I was thrilled to discover that there was a food truck from the international vegan Loving Hut chain on the Sint Katelijneplein/Place Sainte Catherine (in front of the church) every Wednesday afternoon during the organic market. Since then, the Loving Hut Express has become my regular Wednesday lunch spot. The fast, delicious food there is all freshly prepared by the ever-friendly Tino.
I haven’t yet tried everything on the menu, but one of my favorites so far is the massive burger (served with loads of fresh veggies including beetroot, shredded carrot, and pickles, and your choice of sauce).
Other favorites are the wok noodles – stir fried fresh on the spot with veggies and seitan strips – and the amazing tiramisu made with speculoos! I also recently tasted the pizza broodje, which my nephew ordered and which was smothered in a saucy veggie crumble and topped with melted Wilmersburger shreds. The Mexican wrap filled with black beans, rice, and veggies is large and satisfying. I’ve heard good things about the soup, and they also sell packs of Wilmersburger slices.
Loving Hut Express is located at the Place Sainte-Catherine/Sint Katelijneplein in Brussels on Wednesdays from 12 to 14:30; at the Draakplaats in Antwerp on Tuesdays and Fridays from 12-14:00 and from 16-20:00 (19:00 on Fridays); and at the Bedrijvencentrum de Punt in Gentbrugge on Thursday from 11:30-13:30 and 16:30-20:00.
